Joe constructs a winning CV

Joe O’Neil was out of work and referred by the Job Centre to Vestia Training, where he attended a Vestia Employability Training course in January this year. Joe previously worked in a skilled manufacturing environment on temporary contracts and was seeking a more permanent contract to enable him to support his young family.

During the course Joe was supported in applying for a range of vacancies and this was underpinned with work on updating his CV to showcase his transferable skills and interview techniques. Joe rated this approach as very helpful and said “I realised that I was not as bad at interviews as I thought and that anything is possible with the right mind-set!”

His hard work paid off as he secured an interview with SSE Audio Group, Redditch a major supplier of sound equipment. Although this was a change of career for Joe, we worked hard to prepare him for the interview going through example questions with structured answers.

Joe was successful with the formal interview and then had to take part in a skills test.

Following this, the old adage came true – ‘you wait ages for a bus… then three come along at once!’ Joe was offered two other jobs; one with an automotive firm and the other on a building site in Worcester. These job offers came through agencies with which he had submitted his CV.

Joe has now secured a permanent job on a building site where he hopes to gain lots of practical experience in a number of trades, especially plastering as this is an area he would like to progress and pursue in the future.
